Unfortunately the game does not support 21:9 displays. So you may to wait for an official patch from Capcom or any third party mod.

#3 Black Screen at startup / D3DERR_DEVICELOST issue in Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen fix:

If your game is getting a black screen at startup and getting a “D3DERR_DEVICELOST : getDevice0 – >Reset(&d3dppm)” error, you can fix it using the following two methods.

  • You need to go to the Nvidia Control Panel and add the game executable. Then you have to override the in-game video settings. Then try to launch the game.
  • Another method includes editing of the configuration file. Go to

    C:\Users\YOU\AppData\Local\CAPCOM\DRAGONS DOGMA DARK ARISEN

Open the config.ini file from there with notepad. Now change Vsync=ON to Vsync=OFF

#4 Don’t have latest Windows Media Player installed issue in Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen fix:

This occurs when you don’t have the Media Feature Pack installed on your system. It is required by Windows Vista and newer operating systems. To fix this error, just download and install the Media Feature Pack from the following links.

For Windows Vista / 7 / 8: Download

For Windows 10: Download

Open the config.ini from

C:\Users\YOU\AppData\Local\CAPCOM\DRAGONS DOGMA DARK ARISEN

Open config.ini and set Stereo=ON. This should help solve your problem.

#7 Infinite loading time after first Chimera fight fix:

Currently there is no fix for this game breaking bug. This is most common with users playing the game in Windows 10 OS. I am sure Capcom is looking into the matter and will release a patch soon.

Hi! I’m having the blackscreen (D3D error) crash problem, and I’ve gone into the CAPCOM folder but all I have is Street Fighter in there, no Dragon’s Dogma. What gives?

    • thetech52

Have you installed a pirated copy of game?

      • Jimmy Robinson

Of course not, jesus christ. I preloaded it on steam and started playing it on launch day, then it broke the second I changed some graphics settings.

        • Jimmy Robinson

still waiting on further advice. What do you suggest?

          • Jimmy Robinson

managed to fix it myself with the help of others. Might wanna work on actually offering tech help next time, instead of accusing me of piracy, man. thanks for the original post anyway. :/

          • Eric Bailey

Not at all called for, I wonder if he pirated his copy and simply has a fix for that …..but don’t take it personal…F2P doesn’t exist for nothing, its cause 95% or more of pc gamers pirate. = how sad.

          • thetech52

Okay I think you guys got me wrong.. Lol.. When I actually asked if you installed a pirated copy, there was some technical reason.. Whenever you install a pirated copy of any game, it’s possible that the installer installed in some custom folder rather than following the directory of a legit installation.. But I am glad you fixed that..

          • Jimmy Robinson

Thanks for clearing that up. I didn’t install a pirated copy, I can send pictures of my purchase history if you really don’t believe me. You should probably add to your article that running the app in compatibility mode for windows 7 after having the D3D crash is a common fix people are using now. 🙂

          • thetech52

Thanks for your suggestion Jimmy 🙂

  • Really hoping to see a fix for 21:9 monitors 🙁 Im dying to play this game but it cuts off the bottom quarter of the screen on my 21:9 3440×1440 monitor… if anyone is able to have a look at this please let me know.

Hi! I’m having the blackscreen (D3D error) crash problem, and I’ve Steam and this file dont exist

    • thetech52

You need to do two things to fix this problem:

      1. Install DirectX again
      2. Update your graphic card drivers

      • Envy

This doesn’t work for me because as soon as I run the installer for DirectX it just says I have the most updated version.

        • thetech52

Update your graphics card drivers too

  • Alejandro Corsani

Hi…I’m having some problems with the “Windows Media Player” issue: I tried your solution but it still doesn’t work for me!!! How can I solve it?

    • thetech52

Go to Control Panel > Programs > Turn Windows features on or off

Now in the new window, find Media Features. Under that, check Windows Media Player and click OK. Then restart your PC and try to play the game again.

      • Alejandro Corsani

Well…that’s the problem…I installed it…I rebooted the PC but I cannot find that “Media Features” in the “Turn Windows Features on or off” section!! 🙁

        • thetech52

          Okay. Two questions:

          1. Are you using Windows 10?
          2. Which edition of Windows are you using – Home / Pro / Enterprise?

          • Alejandro Corsani

Widows 10 Pro N..But now with the second package it works!!!

          • thetech52

            Glad it does 🙂

      • Alejandro Corsani

I just found out there is a newer version of that package…it’s the KB3099229. I’m trying installing this too!!!
