AMD managed to hit it big time with the new Ryzen processors. Their focus on productivity and the very good price makes them very accessible and some of the best in the industry for that reason alone. But we didn’t get to see any mobile version of the Ryzen chips until now. The HP Envy x360 is the world’s first laptop that actually comes with a Ryzen processor, and it manages to stand out of the crowd with its unique attention to detail and the very powerful specs.
The HP Envy x360 comes with a Ryzen 5 2500U quad core with a 2 GHz base frequency. The unit can go up to 3.6 GHz if necessary and it has 6 MB of cache. Basically, this makes for a very good productivity laptop, and it’s going to impress even the pickier users as well!
Another thing to note about the HP Envy x360 is that it also went with AMD in regards to its graphics. The unit doesn’t have a dedicated card, but it does have an integrated VEGA M graphics unit. This is the first time we see a mention of VEGA for mobile, but it was expected to appear at one point.
Moreover, the HP Envy x360 has a 15.6” display, WLED, multi-touch enabled and a full HD resolution. It’s an IPS display so that you can expect a very good quality and value as a whole. The unit also comes equipped with 8GB of DDR4 and 256GB of Storage. The storage comes in the form of an NVME M.2 SSD, which is known to be one of the fastest on the market. Even if there’s not a lot of storage, it’s blazingly fast, and it will help you go through any productivity tasks without any issue.
It’s hard to know the retail price for this unit, as we don’t know for sure at this time. What we do know is that this is the first time we get to see mobile versions of the Ryzen CPU and the VEGA GPU chipsets. We consider that this is an amazing opportunity and one that does manage to stand out of the crowd with its unique approach and esthetics. You should consider giving this laptop a shot as it seems to be a productivity powerhouse.
Maybe the problem for some people will come from the 2 GHz base clock. It’s not bad, but people would expect a lot more, considering that the competition went well over this value. Hopefully, this will happen rather soon, and the results will shine for everyone involved. This seems to suggest that the HP Envy x360 is mostly for people that need a good productivity unit. Gamers would need a bit more power than that, but we do need to test the unit before judging on that. Even so, it’s nice to see that AMD brings its new products to the laptop market and we look forward to seeing more models soon.
