One of the best things we love about Blizzard is that they implemented a nice way of revealing the backstories of the characters which have been fighting to the death without any context, any reason or any purpose (or so it seems).

While it could be argued that the player decides the reason that these characters exist, I believe that it’s a much better idea to spend some time showing off the character’s story, so there is a bit of a weight added to its existence.

Blizzard announced their willingness to release season 2 of the fan-favorite shorts which tell the backstories of the contenders which enter the ring. While there hasn’t been any reveal of when these will come out, they are coming.

It takes a while to create such animated videos, so take this announcement with a grain of salt, the short videos coming doesn’t mean that they are coming anytime soon. So, if you have your hopes up for an early release, you may or may not be disappointed.

Season 1 shorts

Now for the cancelled comics that Blizzard so graciously took away from us. Some people enjoyed the comics quite a bit but they were discontinued because of a possibility that they didn’t want the developers’ vision of who and what characters are to clash with what players see who and what characters are”.

While, that could certainly be the case, we believe it’s more or less that the Overwatch community would’ve completely rattled them for it. Whenever you release lore for a game, especially one which has quite a vague one beforehand, you have to be very careful about what the current community has made the game up to be.

It doesn’t have to mean it clashes with the player’s thinking, it could mean that it isn’t as enticing as the one which the community already offers. In other words, they may be criticized for it. Whatever the case was, some people did like it and hope it comes back with these shorts.
