Horizon Zero Dawn was one of the most popular games on PS4 and was the standard-bearer of Sony’s recent advancement in the PC world. It is, therefore, understandable that many players are very eagerly waiting Horizon Forbidden West, the sequel to Aloy’s adventures.

Horizon Forbidden West Release Date

The wait is over, or almost. We finally know when Horizon Forbidden West will be releasing in 2022. The second chapter of the saga started in 2017 with Horizon Zero Dawn. Horizon Forbidden West will release on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on February 18, 2022. A few months of waiting, but we are sure it will be worth it.

The announcement comes from the same Guerrilla Games, the famous house for the Killzone series. And, in fact, for Horizon Zero Dawn, one of the most popular and played open world of the last generation.

Horizon Forbidden West Gameplay

The reveal of the game’s first gameplay dates back to a few months ago and it promises miracles. In addition to a series of highly implemented gameplay dynamics (such as the ability to swim underwater), we will see the protagonist Aloy wandering the west coast of the United States in a post-apocalyptic version. We already know that we will see a wild and abandoned San Francisco.

The San Francisco of the future – now fully assimilated by the natural ecosystem that has reaffirmed its dominance – is an incredibly evocative and satisfying location, full of details and glimpses that make us want to explore it in every cave from a few minutes of gameplay.

What to be excited about Horizon Forbidden West

The new verticality of the title, combined with the possibility of diving and exploring the seabed. Here too, colorful and rich in detail, comparable to the areas on the surface. It makes us understand how Guerrilla has pushed the accelerator considerably with this second chapter. To this, we can add the great diversity of biomes that was shown to you during the countdown, when the virtual cameras of the world of Horizon allowed you to take a preview look at the environments that await you.

There is so much to be enthusiastic about. But there is also something that has not fully convinced us, or rather, that has left a bad taste in our mouth. Horizon Forbidden West is undoubtedly a window overlooking the future. Its foundations seem to be very anchored in the past., at least as regards Aloy’s interaction with the world around her.

Probably, Horizon Forbidden West will not be able to be a herald of the new generation at 100%. Precisely because it is a cross-gen title, therefore not able to take the unique characteristics of PlayStation 5 and implant them in its DNA. In this respect, we have seen that the upcoming Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart manages to do better, if only for the ingenious and innovative way to take advantage of the presence of an SSD to change the game world around the player.

Of course, we are still a long way from launch, and we want to make a complete and definitive opinion pad in hand. To date, we can only talk about what Sony and Guerrilla have chosen to show us. Horizon Forbidden West will be a high-profile title from the PS4 and PS5 libraries.
