No Man’s Sky went gold recently and is set to release on August, but developer Hello Games ran into a copyright problem over one of the game’s main algorithms. Dutch company owns the so-called “Superformula” that was used in a significant portion of No Man’s Sky development claims they can’t use their algorithm in the game without permission.

Dutch company Genicap, who owns the so-called “Superformula” that was used in a significant portion of No Man’s Sky development claims Hello Games can’t use their algorithm in the game without permission. They’re not after shutting the game down, though, they just want to negotiate a payment.

While it’s hard for the company to win the dispute, just defending the case would put a financial black hole in Hello Games. We’ll keep you updated on how this develops.
