It seems that the release of the next-gen versions of “The Witcher 3” and “Cyberpunk 2077” in 2021 is no longer so certain. As Michał Nowakowski, VP of Business Development at CD Projekt RED informed the shareholders in a current conference call for the first half of the year, the publication cannot be guaranteed for the end of 2021.

What about Wild Hunt?

The game was released in 2015 (for testing) and is now six years old. But CDPR doesn’t let that stop it and has promised you an upgrade in 2020. This next-gen patch is planned for 2021 (fall is likely) and comes to PC, PS5, and Xbox series.

A little more than a third of the company is currently working on the new-gen version of “Cyberpunk 2077”. The upgrade version of “The Witcher 3” is developed externally by Saber Interactive. But they are similarly busy so that, it cannot be said with certainty whether the version optimized for PS5 and Xbox Series X will appear this year.

CD Projekt does not want to be any more precise at the moment. As it has learned from the release debacle of “Cyberpunk 2077.”

At WitcherCon, the next-gen upgrade for PS5 and Xbox Series X from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was also discussed.

It confirmed that the revised version should continue to be published in 2021 and shows the revised cover for the Complete Edition.

As the new artwork shows, cooperation with Netflix has entered. It means that additional items will also include. Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri will receive alternative armor and outfits that come directly from The Witcher series.

CD Projekt RED overwhelmed us yesterday with a flood of information. It also includes news about the announced next-gen upgrade of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The development of the optimized version is still on track and should still await us in 2021.

The Witcher 3 for PS5 & Xbox Series X: Release in 2021

As Radek Grabowski, senior PR manager at CD Projekt Red, separately announced in a Twitter post after the company’s strategy update, the release of the next-gen upgrade planned for this year, more precisely for the Second Half of the year in 2021. The version of Cyberpunk 2077, optimized for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X / S, will also appear at a similar time.

What does the next-gen version of The Witcher 3 include?

The upgrade is developed by the US developer studio Saber Interactive and intended to optimize the game for the new generation of consoles. The features of PS5 and ‘Xbox Series should also be used accordingly, which means ray tracing and faster loading times. In addition, all DLCs and the two expansion packs, “Hearts of Stone” and “Blood and Wine,” will also be included.

The next-gen upgrade of “The Witcher 3” won’t cost a dime for the players who already own the RPG on PS4, Xbox One, or PC. What else will be included in the optimized version is yet to be known.

For this, the card game Gwent has already guaranteed further updates. And this year’s global release of the AR game The Witcher: Monster Slayer has been announced.
