Here it is. Samsung 16 TB 2.5 inch SSD Shipping Starts. The world’s largest SSD having a capacity of 16 terabytes in a 2.5-inch container.

The 16TB (15.36TB to be exact) was announced by Samsung at the Flash Memory Summit held in California last year. Although the price has been announced, but we can presume to be not very affordable for ordinary use. It is to be marketed as an enterprise product. It is the thinnest SSD in the world. It is claimed that since the product is a 2.5-inch SSD, more drives can be fitted in the server racks than the earlier used 3.5-inch drives.

The device has been manufactured by stacking 512 pieces of its 256Gb vertical NAND memory chips. And these  NAND chips have double the capacity compared to other companies use.

Highlights:

  • 15.36TB data can be stored and can be wrote everyday
  • SSD comes with a tool that can protect data and restore software in case of blackouts

Well that is a huge space to fill up with your data. This year we will also get the SSDs from chaebol with different  capacities like 7.68TB, 3.84TB, 1.92TB, 960GB and 480GB.  And these will surely be much more affordable.
