Need for Speed, the long-running racing game franchise, was rebooted last year on Xbox One and PS4. The development of the PC version took longer and the results are clear. Need for Speed PC version has much fewer bugs and glitches when compared to earlier iterations.

However if you are one of those who are still facing some issues while trying to play the game, read on. We have compiled a list of solutions for the errors from various sources on internet. But before that, please make sure you have at least the minimum system requirements to play Need for Speed on your PC. Check out them below.

How to fix Need for Speed Errors: Crash, Black Screen, Server Issue, Game doesn’t start Issue and more

#1 Disable Film Filter in Need for Speed:

There’s a film grain effect enabled in-game by default. If you want to get rid of that, follow the steps below:

  1. Go to Documents\Need for Speed\settings
  2. Find the PROFILEOPTIONS_profile file and open it using Notepad
  3. Change the line that says FilmGrain 1 to GstRender.FilmGrain 0
  4. Save the file and close.
  5. Play the game.

#2 Crash / CTD / Crash at launch in Need for Speed fix:

If your game crashes while launching, then each of the following workarounds and see if it works for you:

  • Verify the integrity of the game cache files in Steam
  • Update your GPU drivers to the latest versions
  • Turn off all the background processes while playing the game including your Anti-virus software

#3 Black Screen issue in Need for Speed fix:

This issue has been persistent among players which prevents them from getting into the game. A simple workaround lets you bypass this error using windowed mode functionality. Follow the steps below to solve this issue.

  • When the black screen occurs, don’t exit the game. Press Alt-Enter to go into windowed mode, and let the cinematics play. You cannot interact with the game right now.
  • Any time the game asks for a button press, press Alt-Enter to go into full screen mode – the game will turn into a black screen again. Press the button the game asked for, then again press Alt-Enter to go back into windowed mode.
  • As soon as the tutorial ends, pull up the map. Select PC Settings, turn Fullscreen to on.

#4 Connection Error Message in Need for Speed fix:

Need for Speed’s reboot is an online only game and requires a persistent internet connection to run, even for the single player mode. Therefore, make sure you have one.

#5 Game crashes after Tutorial in Need for Speed fix:

Reports of the game crashing on the loading screen after the tutorial have been frequent since the release. This is a common issue among users running the game on Windows 8 with a dual AMD graphics card configuration. To fix this issue, follow one the following workarounds:

  • Update your AMD Catalyst Drivers to the latest version
  • Disable Crossfire functionality

#6 Increase Render Resolution in Need for Speed:

If you are unsatisfied with the default render resolution of the game, there’s a way you can increase it. To increase it without affecting the display resolution, follow the steps below:

  1. Right click on Need for Speed icon in your Origin library. Select Game Properties.
  2. Write -Render.ResolutionScale 1.5 or -Render.ResolutionScale 2.0 in the field box.
  3. Apply and quit.
  4. Play the game.
