How to Rename a Network in Windows 10

Unlike the previous versions of Windows, it is a little work around in Windows 10 to rename a network. So here in this article we will show you how to rename a network in Windows 10.

Option 1: Use Local Security Policy to change network name

  1. Press Windows Key + R to open Run
  2. Type secpol.msc
  3. Press Enter
  4. In Local Security Policy window, in the left pane, navigate to the Network List Manager Policies
  5. Double click on the network name on the right pane that needs to be changed
  6. In the Properties windows, under the Name section. check whether the Name is selected
  7. Enter the network name in the text box
  8. Click on Apply
  9. Now click OK
  10. Reboot your PC

Option 2: Use Registry Editor to change network name

  1. Press Windows Key + R to open Run
  2. Typing regedit to open Registry
  3. Click OK
  4. In the Registry window, navigate to the following key in the left pane:
    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\NetworkList\Profiles
  5. Expand all the subkeys to reach the one which has ProfileName set as the name of the network
  6. Double click on the ProfileName on the right pane to edit it
  7. Change the Value data
  8. Now close Registry Editor
  9. Reboot your PC
